Power Lose Early Lead

Columbus, GA (July 30, 2007) - The West Virginia Power scored the first two runs of Monday's game at Golden Park, but the Columbus Catfish scored the final five and walked away with a 5-2 victory in the first game of the series.
In the first inning, Taylor Green's groundout plated Charlie Fermaint to give the Power an early edge. Later in the inning they left the bases loaded after Jeremy Hellickson struck out Steve Chapman to end the inning. The Power scored again in the third inning on Chuckie Caufield's base hit. Later in the inning Hellickson worked his way out of another bases loaded jam as he struck out Chapman and Martin Maldonado to end the threat.
In the bottom of the third Desmond Jennings reached on a fielder's choice and scored Craig Albernaz to put the Catfish on the board. Columbus scored twice in the fifth inning to take the lead. Jairo Delarosa reached on a fielder's choice and Matt Fields scored the tying run in the process. Later in the inning John Matulia's sacrifice fly brought Albernaz in to give the Catfish the lead. Matulia struck again in the seventh with an RBI triple and Fields knocked in the final run with a two out, run scoring base-hit in the eighth.
Jeremy Hellickson (9-2) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five through five innings to get the win, Neal Frontz (13) pitched two scoreless innings to get the save and Alex Periard (5-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on five hits over six innings.
The Power fell to 66-40 overall and 18-20 in the second half, and the Catfish improved to 62-44 overall and 21-15 in the second half with the win. Andrew Lefave and Chuckie Caufield both had a pair of hits for the Power.
The Power will continue the four game series against the Columbus Catfish at Golden Park on Tuesday night. The Power will start right hander Shawn Ferguson (2-1, 2.72) and the Catfish will counter with right hander Heath Rollins (11-4, 2.72). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
