Myrtle Musings... - This Time They Couldn't Recover...Two nights ago the Pelicans let go of a five run lead, fell behind late, and eventually won a marathon 15-inning game. Last night the Pelicans relinquished yet another late lead and this time they couldn't recover as they fell in the series finale to the Lynchburg Hillcats, 4-3. The Birds plated one run in each of the first three and raced out to a 3-1 edge before their bats went dormant. Lynchburg pulled within a run on Brad Corley's solo home run in the 6th inning and then in the 8th tied the game on an RBI single courtesy of Rob Davenport. Davenport would later score what would prove to be the game-winning run on the third wild pitch of the inning uncorked by Jake Stevens.

- Elvis Has Left The Building...This afternoon the Atlanta Braves pulled the trigger on a deal that will send Pelicans shortstop Elvis Andrus and former Pelicans catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia along with two minor league pitchers to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Gold Glove first baseman Mark Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay. Andrus hit .244 with three home runs and 37 RBI in 99 games with the Pelicans this season. The 18-year-old phenom exits with the best fielding percentage (.949) of any shortstop in the Carolina League as he committed just 25 errors in a league-high 495 total chances and helped turn 63 double plays this year. Andrus was set to enter tonight's game at Kinston on a modest four-game hitting streak that included three straight multi-hit games. After hitting .225 in the first half, Andrus recently started to turn things around at the plate and was batting .279 during the second half.

- Curse Of The K-Tribe...The Pelicans have posted a winning record against every team in the Carolina League through the first eight-plus years of franchise history, except for Kinston. Against the Tribe the Pelicans are 59-111 all-time and they have not won a season-series over their arch-rivals since 2000 when they went 12-8 against the Indians. The Pelicans are 4-6 against the Indians this year, which includes a 2-5 record at Grainger Stadium and a 2-1 mark at "The Fed." The rivals will play 10 times over the final 33 games this year.

- Air Jordan...Jordan Schafer brings an eight-game hitting streak with him to Grainger Stadium tonight during which he's hit .313 (10-for-31) with two home runs, five RBI and six doubles. He also enters tonight ranked 4th among all Minor Leaguers in hits (135), 3rd in doubles (39), 4th in triples (nine), and 3rd in extra-base hits (61). The 20-year-old outfielder is also 3rd in the Braves system with a .314 batting average and is 4th in the Braves organization in HR's with 13 and RBI with 53.

- Running Into The Record Books...Quentin Davis is not so slowly, but surely, making his way into the Pelicans record books. The speedster swiped his 33rd base of the year last night, pulling him within seven stolen bags of tying Adam Stern's record of 40 in 2002. Davis is also on the cusp of tying Kelly Johnson's record of 15 times caught stealing in 2002.
