The long ball helped the Oklahoma RedHawks defeat the Portland Beavers, 6-1, Tuesday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The RedHawks hit three home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull away from the Beavers.
Portland (42-62) took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back doubles from Ray Chang and Justin Hatcher. The Beavers only managed one more hit the rest of the game.
Victor Diaz gave Oklahoma (51-50) a 2-1 lead, with a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. The RedHawks grabbed control of the game with four runs on five hits, including three homers, in the bottom of the seventh.
Guillermo Quiroz (a 2-run homer) and Adam Fox (a solo homer) went back-to-back in the seventh inning. Nelson Cruz added another solo homer to finish the inning as the Hawks built a 6-1 lead.
Edinson Volquez (2-0) earned the win, allowing one run on two hits in six innings. Roger Deago (1-2) took the loss by allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings.
The same two teams play at 7:05 pm CDT Wednesday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
