Hundley powers Missions past 'Riders

The San Antonio Missions powered their way past the RoughRiders for the second straight night as they hit four home runs en route to a 12-7 victory on Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

John Mayberry gave the ‘Riders an early 1-0 lead with his third home run in as many nights in the second inning. Mayberry now has nine home runs on the season for Frisco. San Antonio quickly answered with a run in the top of the third when Brett Dowdy scored on a Will Venable single. The RoughRiders regained the lead at 2-1 in the bottom half of the third as Anthony Webster scored on a Casey Benjamin double.

San Antonio took a commanding lead over the ‘Riders with 10 runs over the next three innings to take an 11-2 lead. For the second consecutive night San Antonio catcher Nick Hundley clubbed a pair of home runs. Hundley led off the fourth inning with a home run off Frisco starter Doug Mathis and later hit a three run home run in the sixth inning. Matt Antonelli and Tim Brown also homered for the Missions.

Brandon Boggs hit his 13th home run of the season to lead off the fourth inning for the ‘Riders and extend his streak to 19 games in which he has reached base safely. Salomon Manriquez added an RBI double nd Steve Murphy drove in a run with a ground out in the sixth to put Frisco within six at 11-5.

After the Missions scored another run in the seventh, the RoughRiders pushed a pair of runs across in the eighth inning when Manriquez hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to five at 12-7.

Mathis allowed three runs on seven hits over four innings in his return from the disabled list. He also struck out one and walked none. Brandon Puffer (3-2) took the loss for Frisco. Mathis' counterpart, Wade LeBlanc (2-1), surrendered three runs on six hits in his five innings of work while striking out four and walking one.

The RoughRiders and Missions will wrap up the series on Wednesday night as the only two 10 game winners in the Texas League will match up. Luis Mendoza (10-1) gets the start for Frisco while Josh Geer (10-4) takes the mound for San Antonio. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
