Staten Island Yankees News Release

The Staten Island Yankees won their third straight game and climbed back to .500 as they topped the Hudson Valley Renegades by a score of 8-5 in a game that turned into a slugfest. The crowd of 5,094 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark was treated to fireworks although it was not a Friday night, with the teams launching a total of three home runs.

The Baby Bombers struck early, scoring in the first inning. Damon Sublett doubled with two outs and then came around to score on a single by Dave Williams to give the Yankees to a 1-0 lead. Starting pitcher, Ryan Zink, was able to shut out the Renegades until the Yankee offense came alive. Zink allowed only one hit and two walks in five innings of work.

The onslaught started in the fifth inning when Sublett crushed a two-run home run to right field, the Bombers' first home run of the season, and gave the team a four run lead. Chris Raber added another run for the Yankees in the same inning as he singled to bring in Dave Williams, making the score 5-0.

The Renegades were able to cut a six run Yankee lead in half when they rallied in the seventh. A two-run double by Angel Fermin and a Shawn O'Malley walk with the bases loaded brought the Renegades into striking distance with the score at 6-3.

The Bombers responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run off the bat of Chase Odenreider that gave the Yankees an 8-3 lead.

Nick Peterson was brought in to close out the game in the ninth. Peterson let up a one-out double to Emeel Salem, despite DJ Hollingsworth's diving attempt. However, Peterson responded by forcing O'Malley to line out and struck out Gregory Sexton to end the game. The loss went to Diego Echeverria who was unable to control his knuckleball and allowed three runs (two earned), three hits, and six walks over 4 1/3 innings of work.

Season ticket, group and single game ticket information is available by calling 718-720-9265 or stopping by the Richmond County Bank Ballpark between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. The Staten Island Yankees next home game will be on Sunday, July 1st, as the Baby Bombers take on the Renegades once again in a 4:00 p.m. start.
