Owen, Cyclones Defeat IronBirdsJune 26, 2007 - New York-Penn League (NYPL) - Brooklyn Cyclones Press Release
Second baseman Micah Schilling got things started offensively for Brooklyn in the bottom of the 1st inning with a leadoff single through the right side of the infield. Third baseman J.R. Voyles followed with a home run to leftfield, his second of the season, that just cleared the fence to put the Cyclones up 2-0.
After consecutive singles by catcher Yasmil Bucce and right fielder Ender Chavez to start the bottom of the 2nd, Cyclones shortstop Matt Bouchard laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. With the help of a throwing error by Aberdeen third baseman Doug Reinhardt, Chavez scored from second base on the bunt to give Brooklyn a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, the Cyclones tacked on a run to make it a 4-0 ballgame when Voyles scored on designated hitter Jason Jacobs' RBI single to center field.
The IronBirds cut the Brooklyn lead in half to 4-2 when they manufactured two runs off Cyclones' reliever Dillon Gee, who came on in relief of Owen in the top of the 6th in his first appearance of the season.
Aberdeen crept closer when they scored on a wild pitch by Brooklyn reliever Will Morgan in the top of the 7th to make it 4-3, but Morgan struck out the Birds' Tyler Henson with the bases loaded to preserve the lead.
Cyclone reliever Grady Hinchman worked a scoreless 8th inning and has not allowed a run in three appearances this season. In the Brooklyn 8th, shortstop Matt Bouchard added an insurance run with an RBI single to right centerfield scoring Raul Reyes. Reinhardt's second error of the game on Voyles' groundout allowed two more Cyclones to score giving Brooklyn a 7-3 cushion.
Dan McDonald pitched a perfect 9th inning, striking out the side, to cap off the victory for Brooklyn.
The Cyclones will be in action again Wednesday night when they look for the sweep of Aberdeen at 7pm. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Schedule Pen courtesy of SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and great seats are still available. To get your tickets now, CLICK HERE.
