THE HILLCATS...continue a six-game homestand with the middle game of a three-game series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at City Stadium...Overcame an early deficit on their way to a 10-6 route of the Pelicans last night...Have recorded back-to-back double-digit run totals for just the second time this season ...Have won three straight games for the first time since May 28th...Still, are just 5-15 (.250) in their last 20 games...Are hitting .257 as a team (5th in the CL) and have posted a collective 4.71 ERA (7th in the CL)...
THE PELICANS...Began the second half by taking 2 of 3 from the homestanding Salem Avalanche...In fact, have won 4 of their last 7 games after going 1-6 over the previous 7 contests...Have issued a league-high 333 walks ( 4.6/game) including six last night ...Are hitting .251 as a unit (T-6th in the CL) while posting a 4.80 team ERA (8th in the CL)...Have not been to the post-season since 2002, the longest current drought in the Carolina League...
2007 vs. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats hold a slight edge in the season series, six games to four...Myrtle Beach captured the 2006 season series, 11 games to 9...Overall, the Pelicans have an edge in the lifetime series 92-77 (.544) and have gone 42-40 (.512) mark in 82 all-time meetings at Lynchburg City Stadium...
REACHING SAFELY: OF Pedro Powell had a streak of reaching base safely in nine consecutive plate appearances come to an end in his final at-bat last night...Over the remarkable run, the speedster went 4-for-4 and was issued five walks...Powell returned to the Hillcats' lineup yesterday after being sidelined with an oblique injury for two weeks...In 2004, Powell set a team-record with hits in seven consecutive plate appearances...
STOLEN: OF Pedro Powell swiped three more stolen bases last night and currently leads the league with 30... He led the league last year with 63 stolen bases and is attempting to become just the 2nd player in league history to win back-to-back stolen base crowns...Jack Mitchell led the league in the category in both 1952 and 1953....
