 Tulsa Drillers

Loss Drops Drillers

June 13, 2007 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release

Tulsa's bid to stay within one game of the North Division leading Springfield Cardinals fell short as the Arkansas Travelers defeated Tulsa 3-2 Wednesday evening at Drillers Stadium. The loss, combined with Springfield's 2-0 win over Wichita, dropped the Drillers two full games behind the Cardinals in the North Division standings with less than a week remaining in the first half of the season. Tulsa has seven games remaining in the half, while Springfield has six games left.

The Travs struck first in Wednesday's game as Greg Porter led off the top of the second with a double to center. He advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Bobby Wilson and scored on a single by Curtis Pride.

Porter struck again in the third inning, sending a Ching-Lung Lo pitch off the right field foul pole to extend the Travs lead to 2-0.

The Drillers rallied to tie the game with a two-run fourth inning off Arkansas starter Nick Adenhart. Christian Colonel doubled with one and then scored on Chris Frey's triple. Matt Macri extended the Tulsa rally with a double to right that scored Frey to tie the game up at 2-2.

It remained tied until the top of the ninth inning. Cody Fuller led off the ninth for the Travs with a base hit off reliever Juan Morillo. After a sacrifice bunt, Freddie Sandoval put Arkansas back in front with a double down the right field line.

The Drillers made a bid to tie the game again in the bottom of the ninth off Bill Edwards. With two outs, Jeff Dragicevich reached on an infield single and Tommy Duenas was hit by a pitch. The threat ended when Jonathan Herrera grounded out to second.

Tulsa starter Ching-Lung Lo (2-5) threw six innings surrendering two runs off of seven hits, while striking out six Arkansas hitters.

Morillo (3-2) picked up the loss for the Drillers, yielding one run and two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Closer Steven Register appeared for a rare non-save situation, striking out the only batter he faced to end the ninth.

Adenhart (5-2) threw seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while walking two Driller hitters. Chris Hunter (1-1) picked up his first win of the season by pitching a perfect eighth inning in relief.

Tulsa and Arkansas will play game two of their five game series Thursday night at Drillers Stadium. Matt Daley (1-3, 3.95 ERA) will pitch for the Drillers and face off against Fernando Rodriguez (2-1, 4.67 ERA) for the Travelers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.
