Hickory, NC-Jared Hughes worked a season high 7 scoreless innings as the Hickory Crawdads beat the Asheville Tourists, 7-1, Sunday at L.P. Frans Stadium.

After no runs were scored by either team over the first 4 and a half innings, the Dads' unloaded on Asheville's Keith Weiser in the 5th. Alex Presley reached on a fielding error by first baseman Michael Paulk, and went to second. Presley then stole 3rd base. Jose De Los Santos knocked in Presley on a single to left. Eventually De Los Santos stole 2nd and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Jhaysson Agustin. Jared Keel walked to put runners at the corners. Then, Bobby Kingsbury lined a single to right, plating De Los Santos and sending Keel to 3rd. Francis Poni laced a double to left, bringing home Keel and Kingsbury, putting the Dads' in front, 4-0.

Hughes was removed after the 7th. The 21 year-old hasn't allowed a run in 13 IP on the year against Asheville.

Hickory boosted its lead in the bottom of the 7th. Ambrose walked and De Los Santos singled, to put 2 runners aboard. Keel then drove in Ambrose with a single on a line drive to center. Later on in the inning, Jim Negrych tripled to right, knocking in De Los Santos and Keel.

In 2 innings of work, Stephen MacFarland allowed just a Jay Cox solo HR to left in the 9th. Hickory still prevailed easily, 7-1. Hughes (5-4) earned the win. Weiser (8-3) took the loss, his second at Hickory.

The Crawdads open up a 4-game series tomorrow night at 7:00 at L.P. Frans Stadium against the West Virginia Power. RHP Mike Crotta is scheduled to start for Hickory.
