Brandt and Pettit earn Angels' monthly honors

June 7, 2007 - Tony Reagins, Director of Player Development for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that Cedar Rapids Kernels outfielder Chris Pettit and pitcher Doug Brandt were named the Angels Player and Pitcher of the Month for May.

Pettit, selected as a starter in the MWL All-Star Game on June 19th, batted .373 in 28 games (38-102) with 14 doubles, 2 HR and 13 RBI for an on-base percentage of .443 and a slugging percentage of .569. Pettit also stole six bases in seven attempts. He currently is the MWL leader in batting average (.370). doubles (23), runs scored (43), on base percentage (.450) and slugging percentage (.619) and is second in extra base hits (31) and third with total hits (70).

Brandt, also selected to the MWL All-Star Game, posted a 2-1 record and 1.65 ERA in five starts for the Kernels. In 27.1 innings, he allowed 26 hits, eight runs (five earned), with 29 strikeouts and just three walks. The league was batting .236 against him and he induced two double plays.

The Kernels host the Swing of the Quad Cities in a short, two-game home and home series on Thursday, June 7th starting at 7 pm.
