The Beloit Snappers will be going up against Ryne Sandberg's Peoria Chiefs at Pohlman Field this Saturday and Sunday. Game times for the series are as follows: Saturday, May 19th at 6:30 pm and Sunday, May 20th at 2:00 pm. Tickets are still available for both dates, and are going quickly!!!
Ryne Sandberg played for the Cubs from 1982-1994 and again from 1996-1997 after starting his career with the Philadelphia Phillies. Sandberg had a .285 career batting average with 282 home runs, 1061 RBI's, and 403 doubles. He won nine straight Gold Gloves from 1983-1991 and made the All-Star team every season from 1984-1993. In 1984, "Ryno" won the National League MVP Award with a .314 average, 19 home runs, 36 doubles, 19 triples, and 84 RBI's.
Sandberg set a Major League record for most consecutive games and chances at second base without an error. He also retired with more home runs than any other second baseman in the history of baseball. On August 28th, 2005, the Chicago Cubs retired his jersey #23 and his flag is located below Billy Williams' on the flagpole in right field.
This will also be the first chance fans will have to check out the NEW DECK down the third base line. The Leinie Lodge has been going through quite a make-over during the past two weeks, and is ready to go for the upcoming eight game homestand.
