Bisons Notes

April 30, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Pawtucket Red Sox in the final game of a four-game set from McCoy Stadium (6:15 p.m.). The Herd is looking for the series win after back-to-back victories over the PawSox this weekend. On the hill for Buffalo will be RHP Jeff Harris, who is already working on a game against Pawtucket. Harris was the starting pitcher in last Monday's game at Dunn Tire Park that was suspended because of wind and dangerous playing conditions (1.0IP, 2H, 3R). Pawtucket will counter with RHP Devern Hansack, who is 1-2 with a 3.22ERA.

STARTING STRONG: The Bisons rotation has been outstanding so far this season. The group has combined to go 9-1 with a 2.98ERA and more strikeouts (85) than hits allowed (84). The group of Jason Stanford, Adam Miller, Rafael Perez, Brian Slocum and Jeff Harris has combined for six quality starts while pitching on average 5.2 innings a game.

RED HOT BAT: Franklin Gutierrez has the Bisons longest hit streak of the 2007 season. The outfielder has hit in nine straight heading into today's action with a .395 (17-43) average, three doubles, two home runs, four RBI and 11 runs scored. Seven of the nine games have been multi-hit performances. Gutierrez is currently sixth in the IL with a .353 average.

RUNNING HERD: Ryan Mulhern collected one of the Bisons' two stolen bases yesterday (Brad Snyder), becoming the 10th Herd player to steal a base this season. Buffalo is second in the International League with 25 steals. As a team, the Bisons have only been caught stealing four times for an 86.2% success rate. Ben Francisco leads the Herd with seven steals (T4th in the IL).

EXTRA POWER: Infielder Ryan Mulhern leads the Bisons with four home runs and eight extra-base hits. He has also hit .438 (7-16) with a triple and two home runs over his last four games to raise his season average to .305. The stretch has raised his slugging percentage to a team-high .593 (fourth in the International League).

IN A PINCH: After yesterday's appearance, Trent Durrington is now 2-2 with a pair of RBI-singles in pinch-hit opportunities. The infielder has gotten an official plate appearance in only five games this year, but has collected at least one hit in each of those games. He has also driven in a run in four of those five games.
