Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
High School qualifying for the PNM Power Derby continues this weekend at Isotopes Park with four more aspiring sluggers taking their hacks for a chance to participate in the PNM Power Derby on July 9, part of the Albuquerque Isotopes' Triple-A All-Star Fiesta. Sandia Prep's David Gangwish and Dylan Wisneski of Belen High School will take their cuts on Saturday, April 21 after the 'Topes tangle with the New Orleans Zephyrs at 7:05 PM, while Eldorado High School's Brett Haggerty and Richard Bohlken, representing La Cueva High School, will swing for the fences after the Isotopes and Zephyrs 1:35 PM game on Sunday, April 22.
Gangwish, a catcher for the Sundevils, is a three year letterman on the baseball team and is the captain of the team, while Wisneski is a two-time second team All-District Pitcher, and a third team All-District first baseman, while also playing some outfield for the Eagles.
On Sunday, senior catcher Haggerty, who holds a 3.9 GPA at Eldorado will attempt to qualify alongside Bohlken, a member of the four-time New Mexico State Champion La Cueva Bears.
Throughout the season, high school stars will compete for a chance to represent their schools in the PNM Power Derby, which will pit sluggers from the International League, Pacific Coast League, and former Major League greats against one another in a home run derby taking place on July 9. Each high school qualifier will be given points; 10 for a home run, three for a shot off the wall, and one for a hit to the warning track, with those that garner the two highest point totals earning a spot in the Derby.
The Isotopes open a four-game homestand against the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday, April 21 that is packed with promotional heavyweights such as an appearance by Myron Noodleman and 50-Cent Hog Dog Night along with new favorites like an Orbit Growth Chart Giveaway. Individual game tickets, season tickets, groups, and mini-plans are now on sale at Isotopes Park.
