Tides fall in extras

Norfolk Tides News Release

Indianapolis' Chris Aguila hit a three-run home run in the top of the 11th inning, lifting the Indians to a 5-2 win over the Tides on a blustery Monday night from Harbor Park.

With the score tied 2-2, Jose Hernandez began the rally by drawing a walk off of Tides' reliever Francis Beltran (0-1). Former Tide Russ Johnson then lined a double down the left field line which moved pinch-runner Yurendell de Caster to third, and Aguila followed with a long drive into the left field picnic area to give the Indians a 5-2 lead.

Norfolk had entered the ninth inning trailing 2-1, but catcher Morgan Clendenin banked a pinch-hit double off the left field wall which plated Luis Montanez to send the game to extra innings. It was the first Triple-A plate appearance for Clendenin, who was activated from extended spring training earlier in the day.

Jim Brower (1-0) yielded the tying run in the 9th inning, but retired the Tides in the 10th inning to pick up the win for the Tribe. Franquelis Osoria pitched a perfect 11th inning to earn his first save of the season.

Mike Cervenak had two hits to lead the Tides offense, while J.R. House added a single in the 8th inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

The Tides and Indians will continue their four-game series with a 7:15 contest Tuesday night from Harbor Park. Tim Kester (0-1, 12.00) is scheduled to take the mound for Norfolk against Indy right-hander Marty McLeary (1-0, 0.00).
