Checkers acquire Tuomi from Phoenix

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced that the team has acquired defenseman Niko Tuomi from the Phoenix RoadRunners which completes the trade which sent Ren Fauci to Phoenix earlier this season. Tuomi was acquired today by Phoenix, from Pensacola, to complete a trade for future considerations earlier this season.

Tuomi, 24, has split time this season with the Florida Everblades and Pensacola Ice Pilots. The 6-foot-1-inch, 205-pound blueliner has played in 42 ECHL games this season recording three goals, 13 assists and 15 penalty minutes.

Originally from Echo Bay, Ontario, Tuomi played four seasons in the OHL before spending two seasons at St. Francis Xavier University.

The Checkers are back at home tonight, Thursday and Sunday. Don't miss Salute to Heroes Night on Sunday as the Charlotte Fire Department will take on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department following the Checkers game.
