Record for season: 21-27-2-4, 44 points - Seventh place in Northern Division
Player Notes: Adam Edinger scored three goals this week in four games and now has five on
the year and four since joining the Nailers from Long Beach. Andrew Penner made his Nailers
debut in a 3-2 shootout win Saturday night against the Johnstown Chiefs. Both of his starts as a
Nailers have gone to shootouts. Ned Havern had four points (2g, 2a) in his first three games
back from Providence (AHL).
Team Notes: Wheeling took part in three shootouts in four games this week. After winning just
one, they are now 3-4 in shootouts this season. The Nailers allowed a season high 57 shots
against Toledo on Wednesday and registered a season high shot total of 52 vs. Johnstown on
Saturday. More than 8,600 people enjoyed a hockey game at WesBanco Arena this weekend.

Wednesday, February 28 Wheeling 3 @ Toledo 4 SO
It took the Toledo Storm 57 shots and a shootout to beat the Wheeling Nailers 4-3 on Wednesday night at the Toledo
Sports Arena. Andy Franck made a season high 53 saves in the losing effort as the Storm came from behind to beat
the Nailers. Jon Smyth's goal just 1:47 into the opening period got the Nailers off on the right foot. The rebound
from Ryan Moren's slapshot sat in the slot for Smyth's fourth goal of the season. Wheeling took a 2-0 lead 3:00
before the end of the first period. Moren's second assist caught Toledo in a change as he sprung Adam Edinger
down the boards. Edinger's slapshot tipped off the glove of Ervins Mustukovs and into the net. After five
consecutive minutes of a Toledo power play, the Storm cut the Nailers lead to one. Matt Zultek grabbed a rebound
off a Gerry Burke slapper and turned it past Franck. Another Storm power play lead to another Nailers' goal. At the
13:28 mark of the second, Sean Collins created a turn over and sent Ned Havern on a breakaway. His move beat
Mustukovs blocker side for his ninth. Brent Sullivan scored the next two goals and tied the game at three. He got
his first of the game at 14:11 of the second on the power play. His second came 5:55 into the third. The rest of the
third period and the overtime went scoreless despite a flurry of scoring chances in each direction. In the shootout the Nailers were shutout on all four shots while Toledo got goals from Christ Blight and Nick Parillo.
Friday, March 2 Wheeling 2 vs. Dayton 5
The Nailers looked strong early on but could not keep up the pace as the fell by a score of 5-2 to the Dayton Bombers tonight at WesBanco Arena. The Nailers opened the scoring when they capitalized on an early power-play goal at 3:22 of the first period. Paul Bissonnette, quarterbacking the man advantage, skated down the left wing and put a shot past Dayton goaltender Terry Denike to give the Nailers a 1-0 lead. He then celebrated, in true heavyweight fashion, by doing push-ups on the ice. Ryan Moren and Jordan Cameron assisted on Bissonnette's ninth goal of the year. The First period ended with the Nailers tallying the lone goal and holding a 1-0 lead. The Bombers tied the game at one at 4:00 of the second period with a power-play marker of their own. Yannick Tifu was able to lift a rebound over Andy Franck while the Bombers were on a two-man advantage. The Nailers took their lead back with 7:35 left in the second with their second power-play goal. Sean Collins, using his incredible vision, threaded the needle to get a cross ice pass to childhood friend Ned Havern, who one-timed a shot past Denike. Jordan Cameron had the secondary assist. The Bombers, however, tied it at two just 1:35 later. Greg Labenski, after the Bombers won a face off, fired a slap-shot from the left circle that got past a screened Franck. The visitors took a 3-2 lead with 39 ticks left in the second. After a substitution miscue, Andrew Penner had to momentarily replace Andy Franck in goal. His debut was not a glamorous one as Brent Walton scored Dayton's third power-play goal just seconds after Penner entered the game. The period ended with Dayton leading 3-2. Dayton extended their lead to two at 5:25 of the third. On a 2-on-1 down low, Tifu fed a pass to Petr Pohl who flipped the puck over Franck to make it 4-2. The Bombers made it 5-2 at 12:05 of the third when Franck misplayed a puck behind his own net, resulting in a turnover in front. The disc came right to Dayton's Pohl, who just had to put it in the empty net.
Saturday, March 3 Wheeling 3 vs. Johnstown 2 SO
Morgan Cey stopped 51 shots through 65 minutes but it was Joe Guether's goal in the shootout that earned the Wheeling Nailers a win over the Johnstown Chiefs. After the Chiefs took a 1-0 lead just 2:44 into the first, Wheeling got the tying goal from David Mitchell. It was his first goal and point of his ECHL career. The Nailers took a 2-1 lead four minutes before the end of the second period as Adam Edinger tipped a shot from Cody Blanshan past Cey. With time winding down in the third, Brandon Elliot's wrister squeaked through Andrew Penner for the tying goal. Overtime would decide nothing as it went to a shootout. After trading goals on the first three shooters, the Nailers took the advantage on a Vin Hellemeyer goal. Johnstown would tie it at two on their fifth shooter but Joe Guenther won his third shootout of the season beating Cey on the backhand.
Sunday, March 4 Wheeling 2 @ Reading 3 SO
The second shootout in as many nights for the Wheeling Nailers featured the same score with a different result. The Reading Royals picked up the extra point converting on two of five shots in the shootout. All the goals were scored in the first period of regulation. Former Nailer Bill Downy rolled a wrist shot of Andrew Penner's shoulder and into the net at the 4:52 mark. Wheeling would tie it at 15:57 on Joe Guenther's team leading 25th goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, Reading regained the lead on a two-on-one between Chris Bala and Jon Francisco. Less than two minutes later Adam Endinger tipped a Paul Bissonnette shot through traffic and Yutaka Fukufuji. The first two shooters were stopped in the shootout before Jordan Cameron gave the Nailers a 1-0 lead after the third shooter. Reading would score their final two shots on Penner while Fukufuji stoned both Nailers for the win.

The Nailers head to the Toledo Sports Arena for the second Wednesday in a row to face the Storm. Wheeling is 2-2-0-1 against Toledo this season.
Friday, March 9 Wheeling @ Johnstown 7:30p.m.
The Nailers take on the Johnstown Chiefs in their twelfth and final meeting of the season at the War Memorial on Friday night.
Saturday, March 10 Wheeling @ Dayton 7:00p.m.
The Nailers have not won either game this season that they have played at the Nutter Center in Dayton. They are 1-6 vs. the Bombers in 06-07.
Sunday, March 11 Wheeling vs. Dayton 6:00p.m.
Sunday Family Fun-Day returns to WesBanco Arena. The Nailers and Bombers faceoff at 6 and stay after the game to skate with some of your favorite Nailers players.
Power Hour: The Nailers Power Hour will return to the Mix WK 97.3 on Thursday at 6p.m.
In the Crease: The Wheeling Nailers new call-in show will not air this week.
