Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CALIF - Lino Garcia's stay in Chico has turned out to be a short one - after an impressive 2006 season, the Outlaws outfielder is back in affiliated baseball. The Outlaws announced Monday that Garcia's contract has been sold to the Colorado Rockies by the Golden Baseball League. Garcia will be in spring training camp when Rockies minor leaguers report next week in Tucson, Arizona, with an opportunity to earn a double-A roster spot in '07.

Garcia appeared in 58 games for the Outlaws last year, batting .240 and tying his single-season career high with four home runs while driving in a career-best 32 runs. His 10 stolen bases ranked fourth on the team, and despite playing through a variety of injuries, chalked up 17 extra-base hits on the year. Lino also distinguished himself as one of the GBL's top defensive players, leading the league with 10 outfield assists.

This is the second time in Garcia's career that he has been in affiliated ball. Lino was an Arizona Diamondbacks farmhand from 2001-2005 before joining Chico last year.

Garcia is the second member of the 2006 Outlaws to have his contract purchased by a major league team. Last August the Toronto Blue Jays acquired Chico catcher Craig Kuzmic, who finished the '06 season with the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The Outlaws 2007 season begins June 7 in Reno against the defending GBL champion Silver Sox. Chico's home season opener at Nettleton Stadium is scheduled for June 10 against Reno. A variety of season ticket plans are currently available; for more information call 345-3210 or stop by the Outlaws office at 308 Salem St. in downtown Chico.
