Heroes hope to rebound this week

After a disappointing season opening loss to Carolina on Saturday, the Heroes returned to the practice field Monday night to correct the mistakes from that game and to prepare for this week's game. The Heroes have a short week to prepare for it's first road trip of the season to take on the Johnstown Riverhawks. After practice coach McPeek offered his thoughts on Saturday and a look ahead to the Johnstown game.
A bright spot from Saturday was definitely the offense, that put up 57 points in the loss. The offense clicked early and scored at will, but a couple of bad series in the second half hurt the outcome. "The offense played well enough to win the game," said head coach Garry McPeek, "We did have a couple of bad series in the second half. One due to penalties and the other was poor execution, but all in all we moved the ball very well all night."
As well as the offense played, the defense on the other hand had a bad night, something coach McPeek says will not happen often this season. "The defense was the most disappointing part of the game," says McPeek, "We have always prided ourselves with getting pressure on the opposing QB, and forcing turnovers. We are still tinkering with the lineup and will get this phase straightened out very quickly. Our defensive players have a lot of pride and will get this fixed."
The Heroes defense will have to work quickly this week, particularly in the secondary, as it faces a big time play maker in Riverhawk wide receiver Quenteen Robinson. "Quenteen is a great player that has a wealth of experience", said McPeek, "He causes match up problems for every one so I will sleep like a baby this week....wake up every three hours and cry!"
The Heroes hold a 2-0 advantage all-time in the series against the Riverhawks, sweeping both games last year. But coach McPeek says that doesn't matter for this season, "Last year has nothing to do with this year. They have a new coach, Steve Folmar, that has done an excellent job where ever he has been. We will have our hands full Friday night. They have a very nice arena, very tough place to play. We have a lot of respect for Johnstown and the job that they do there." Both teams are looking for their first wins of the the season, making this matchup a little more intense according to McPeek, "We are both hungry for a win so it should be very interesting."
