Jam set for MLK Showcase

Bakersfield, CA Jan. 10 - The Bakersfield Jam will be involved in the 2007 NBA Development League MLK Showcase this week, which takes place from Monday, Jan. 15 through Wednesday, Jan. 17. NBA TV will televise the Showcase, and will use new camera angles during the 12 games taking place at the Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, SD.

The new camera angles which will be tested out at the Showcase are designed to make viewers feel as though they are at the arena for every game. Some of the angles which will be tested include a wireless steadicam which will be used during free throws as well as some deadball situations, two jib cameras which will handle most of the play-by-play action, six enhanced microphones to pick up every sound during the game, and an all-access lock into each team's locker room during halftime.

Former NBA player and current Jam color analyst Sean Rooks will serve alongside draft expert and NBA TV contributor Jim Clibanoff as the network's on-air analysts. Rick Kamala of NBA TV and Tom Nieman, Sioux Falls's radio announcer will hander play-by-play duties during the Showcase. They will also provide interviews with numerous special guests and analysis of each game. All games will have live audio on NBA.com and live video tape of the two tape-delayed games on NBA TV

Numerous NBA players assigned to D-League teams will be involved in this event. Some of them are Fort Worth's Pops Mensah-Bonsu of the Dallas Mavericks, Sioux Falls's Amir Johnson of the Detroit Pistons, Bakersfield's Patrick O'Bryant of the Golden State Warriors and 9th overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft, Colorado's P.J. Tucker of the Toronto Raptors, Tulsa's Marcus Vinicius of New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, and Austin's James White of the San Antonio Spurs.

Following the showcase, the Jam will return home to face the Idaho Stampede on January 19th.

The D-League continues to develop talent from across all disciplines for the NBA's 30 teams and the entire NBA umbrella. This season, 19 NBA teams assigned 29 players to D-League affiliates. There were also 18 GATORADE Call-Ups from the D-League to the NBA. Additionally, every referee hired by the NBA since 2002 has worked in the D-League, while coaches, athletic trainers and front office executives are also being developed.
