Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The 2006 Kelly Cup champion Alaska Aces have reached an agreement with Anchorage native Joey Hope for the 2006-07 season.

Hope has spent all but four games of his three-year pro career at the American Hockey League level with the Philadelphia Phantoms. A six-foot, 190-pound defenseman who grew up in Anchorage and played at East High School, Hope has battled injuries over the last two seasons after helping Philadelphia reach the second round of the 2004 Calder Cup playoffs as a rookie. In 102 games with the Phantoms, including 38 last year, he scored three goals and assisted on eight others. The first goal of his pro career came November 5, 2004 against the Hershey Bears.

Hope joined the U.S. Junior National Team after his sophomore year at East and represented his country at the 2002 World Juniors in the Czech Republic. He enjoyed three successful years in the Western Hockey League for Portland, tying for second on the team with 27 assists in 2003, a year after he was chosen to play in the 2002 Canadian Hockey League Hershey Cup All-Star Series. The 24-year-old Hope finished with 28 goals and 81 helpers to go along with 375 penalty minutes in three WHL campaigns.

The Aces open defense of their ECHL championship in Anchorage Friday, October 20, at 7:15 p.m. against the Victoria Salmon Kings. Alaska welcomes the Toledo Storm for two pre-season games at Sullivan Arena October 10-11 at 7:15 p.m., with ticket pricing set at a special rate of only $10, regardless of seat location.
