Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced the signing of winger Maxime Mathieu and that Scott McKee, of Edinburg, Texas, has been invited to the team's 2006 training camp.

Mathieu is a 5-foot-11, 186-pound wing who played the last two seasons for the Lewiston MAINEiacs in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The 20-year-old native of Normandin, Quebec, collected 29 points (11-18-29) and 422 PIM in two seasons with Lewiston. In 2004-05 he also played 20 games for the College St. Lawrence Lions, collecting 12 points (5-7-12) and 12 PIM before being recalled to Maine. Mathieu was selected by Lewiston in the fourth round of the 2004 QMJHL Draft.

"Maxime is a young, gritty power forward who's looking to take the next step in his career," said Killer Bees coach Paul Fixter. "He comes with good recommendations after playing two seasons in a dynamic league where skill, good skating and toughness are big parts of the game."

The Killer Bees also invited Scott McKee to training camp. McKee is 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward who is taking his first step into pro hockey. The Bayfield, Ontario, played high school hockey and had an opportunity to play AAA junior hockey in Canada. However, he followed his parents to the Valley to gain residency status prior to his 18th birthday. The 23-year-old paramedic plays men's hockey at the RGV Ice Center three times a week and caught the eye of Killer Bees player/assistant coach Jason Cirone, who suggested to Mckee that he contact Fixter.

"Scott approached me with the idea of coming to training camp, and based on the recommendation from Jason, I decided to let him show me what he can do," said Fixter. "It's by no means a token invite. I talked to Scott a number of times and he's interested to see where this might take him. He expressed to me how much he has been working out this summer, getting his conditioning up, and working on his game."

Individual tickets for the Bees preseason game on October 17, as well as all regular season games, go on sale Monday, October 2, at 10 a.m. Tickets are available at the Dodge Arena Box Office, online at killerbeehockey.com, and by phone at 866-RIO-TIXX.
