SEVIERVILLE, TN- The BayBears won their sixth game in a row Thursday, beating Tennessee 9-3 in front of 2,081 fans at Smokies Park. Mike Ekstrom (3-7) won his third straight game, after starting 0-7 with Mobile. Ekstrom had a three-run double in the second inning, and then scored on Jeremy Cleveland's RBI double one batter later. The BayBears had two, two-run home runs in the game, one by Colt Morton and another by Stephen Smitherman.
Mario Ramos pitched a scoreless ninth for Mobile. Morton was 3-for-5 with three RBI?s for Mobile, and Brett Bonvechio was 3-for-5 with three singles. The BayBears win, combined with Montgomery's 4-2 loss to Mississippi, puts Mobile three games behind first place Montgomery with four games to play in the 2006 Southern League season.
Jack Cassel (6-2) will pitch for Mobile Friday at 6:15 against Tennessee's A.J. Shappi (0-3). All BayBears games can be heard on 1480 AM WABB, Comcast Cable Channel 18, and on the internet via mobilebaybears.com.
