Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Binghamton Mets batted around in two different innings and led by five runs on two different occasions, but the Portland Sea Dogs scored the game's final six runs, coming from behind to beat the B-Mets 10-9 in the series opener at Hadlock Field Monday. The B-Mets, losers of 10 of their last 12, are three games behind Portland for the division's wildcard playoff spot.
Binghamton (63-63) batted around in the first, scoring five times off starter Jose Vaquedano. After Wilson Batista walked and Chase Lambin singled, Jorge Padilla forced in Batista with a fielder's choice before scoring on Michel Abreu's two-run homer.
Two batters later, Carlos Gomez walked and scored on a double by Ambiorix Concepcion and an error before Andy Wilson brought in Concepcion with a base hit to left, putting Binghamton ahead 5-0.
Portland (66-60) rallied for four runs in the first two innings against Miguel Pinango. Chris Durbin tripled in a run in the first before scoring on a Luis Jimenez double play groundout. David Bacani walked with two out in the second before scoring on an error. Jacoby Ellsbury's single drove in another run, pulling the Sea Dogs within 5-4.
The B-Mets batted around again in the fourth. Wilson began the inning by drawing a walk off Vaquedano before Corey Ragsdale bunted him to second. Batista singled and Lambin walked, loading the bases for Michel Abreu, who drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Wilson. Jay Caligiuri's two-run single scored Batista and Lambin and chased Vaquedano before Gomez drove in Abreu with a double for a 9-4 B-Mets lead.
However, Portland got a run back on Durbin's RBI double in the fourth before tying the game in the fifth. Brian Myrow drove in the inning's first run with a groundout before Dusty Brown hit a game-tying, three-run homer to left.
B-Mets reliever Eddie Camacho tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Pinango before giving way to Lino Urdaneta in the ninth. Urdaneta (0-1), making his B-Mets debut, walked Luis Jimenez, who had Zach Borowiak pinch-run for him. Borowiak moved to second on a wild pitch before Brandon Moss scored him with a double to left.
Jonathan Searles (7-3) tossed two scoreless innings for the win.
Tuesday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game series in Portland. Bryan Edwards (3-7, 4.82) will get the ball for Binghamton against southpaw Lenny DiNardo, who will be making a Major League rehab appearance for Portland. The first pitch is slated for 7:00 at Hadlock Field with the radio broadcast starting at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
