St. Joe guts out a pair of one run victories over St. Paul

ST. JOSEPH, MO- St. Joe (19-18, 45-40) and St. Paul (17-20, 46-39) played two intense affairs with St. Joe picking up a pair of wins, 2-1 and 7-6. The wins move the Blacksnakes one game behind St. Paul for the wild card with 11 games to play, and four more between the two teams.

St. Joe took the lead in the opener with two unearned runs in the second inning. Misha Dworken singled in a run and Denver Kitch plated the second on a sacrifice fly. Andrew Edwards (2-4) and Jamie Tricoglou made it hold up as Edwards was outstanding for six innings and Tricoglou tossed a perfect seventh for the save.

In the nightcap, St. Joe jumped out to a large early lead but had to hold on. The Blacksnakes plated four first inning runs, including Jake Whitesides two-run triple, and went up 5-0 with an unearned run in the second. St. Paul rallied to make it 5-4 in the third on a three-run triple by Nick Gretz. After St. Joe added runs in the fourth and fifth for a 7-4 lead, St. Paul scored a pair in the sixth and had two runners on with nobody out but could not tie the game. In the seventh, Jamie Tricoglou came on and put the first two aboard before getting a double play from his defense and a pop up to close out both wins.

Misha Dworken drove in three runs in the twin bill and Scooter Jordan reached base four times, scoring twice with a pair of stolen bases in the combined affairs.

The ‘Snakes and Saints will wrap up the series Tuesday night as St. Joe looks for the sweep at 7:05pm. The Blacksnakes will send J.C. Huguet (5-3) to the hill against Charlie Ruud (6-5) for the Saints. It is "Two for Tuesday" with two-for-one specials on grandstand tickets to see if the Blacksnakes can tie St. Paul for the North Division wild card.
