SIOUX CITY - The Sioux City Explorers fell 9-3, Monday night to the Sioux Falls Canaries at Lewis and Clark Park. The loss drops the X's to 41-44 (17-20 second half), and the win improves the Canaries to 31-52 (15-21 second half).

The X's jumped out to a quick start, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. Sioux Falls cracked the scoreboard, and took the lead in the top of the third when they plated three runs. The Canaries would put the game out of reach with four runs in the eighth. Sioux City got one run in the bottom of the eighth, when Chris Grossman hit his 12th home run of the season over the scoreboard in left-centerfield. The Canaries added two runs in the ninth on an Abner Arroyo home run that hit off the top of the right field line.

Sioux City starter Tom Lipari (6-8) took the loss, going seven innings. Lipari scattered seven hits, allowing three runs and striking out six. Aaron Garrison (6-5) started for Sioux Falls, went 5.1 innings, allowed six hits, two runs, walked four and struck out five.

Chris Grossman went 2-4 at the plate, with the home run. Jake Daubert was 1-4 at the plate, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. JJ Burress, Alex Llanos, Jorge Moreno, and Mike Richardson each added another hit.

The X's and Canaries will play a day-night double dip on Tuesday. The first game will start at 11:30 at Sioux Falls Stadium in Sioux Falls. Chad Scarbery (0-1) will start for Sioux Falls and Aaron Marsden (3-5) will take the mound for Sioux City. Game two will start at 7:05 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City. Chris Swiatkiewicz (0-2) will go for the X's and Sean Donlin (0-5) will start for the Canaries.
