Iowa Chops News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars today released their schedule frequency grid for the upcoming 2006-2007 season. The attached chart reveals the Stars 80-game slate dominated by division foes. As expected, the Stars schedule will be stockpiled with games against West Division rivals.

The AHL's Divisional alignment will see Iowa square-off against West Division foes (Chicago Wolves, Houston Aeros, Milwaukee Admirals, Omaha Knights, Peoria Rivermen and San Antonio Rampage) a total of 31 times during the regular season at Wells Fargo Arena. Sixty-two of the Stars 80 games will come against those West Division rivals, with five home and five road contests featured against all but Omaha. Iowa will battle the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights six times in Des Moines and six in Nebraska. This season will also feature the first meeting between Iowa and the Syracuse (NY) Crunch (one home/one road). Syracuse is the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets. With the relocation of the San Jose Sharks' affiliate from Cleveland (OH) to Worcester (MA), the Stars lose them as an opponent and have now added two additional games against the Montreal Canadiens affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The Stars will play the North Division's Grand Rapids Griffins, Hamilton Bulldogs and Manitoba Moose four times, with two games coming against each opponent in Des Moines and two on the road. Iowa wraps-up the North Division with one home and one road game with the Rochester Americans, Toronto Marlies, and the newly added Syracuse Crunch. Last season, the Stars clashed with 13 of the 26 other teams, this season, Iowa will face 12 of the 26 other teams. The Albany River Rats will see a League-high 19 teams, while Iowa, Lowell, Milwaukee, Omaha, and Peoria see 12 teams. Unlike last season (Manchester Monarchs), the Stars will not face any teams from the Eastern Conference.

A full schedule, with dates and opponents, is expected to be released by the AHL in the coming weeks. The Stars currently have five guaranteed home dates at Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa will host games on Saturday, October 21st, Friday, October 27th, Friday, November 10th, Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th. Opponents and game times have yet to be determined.
