Indianapolis Indians News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Rochester scored six times in the bottom of the sixth to break open a tie game en route to an 8-3 victory over Indianapolis Thursday night at Frontier Field.
The Red Wings, who have won seven of their last 10 contests, improve to 42-25. The Indians, who drop back-to-back road games for the first time this season, fall to 35-31. Rochester continues to lead the International League's North Division by six games over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Toledo pulls to within two games of Indianapolis in the IL West.
After loading the bases in the sixth, Rochester plated its first run of the inning on DH Ruben Sierra's walk. 1B Garrett Jones followed with a single to drive in LF Josh Rabe and RF Kevin West. After a pitching change, 3B Chris Heintz then plated Sierra with a ground out before C Shawn Wooten blasted his fifth homer of the season -- a two-run shot to right.
Rochester RHP Scott Baker (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 SO) earned his first win of the campaign, while LHP Mike Johnston (1.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) fell to 0-3 with the loss.
The Red Wings cracked the scoreboard with two runs in the first. Rabe singled to center and came around to score on West's double to right center. Sierra brought West home with a single up the middle.
Indianapolis scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings. DH Adam Boeve recorded two RBI for the Tribe, while 1B Mike Edwards launched his second home run of the season -- a solo shot to left -- in the sixth.
Boeve, Edwards and LF Rajai Davis all recorded two hits for the visitors, while Jones led the way with three base knocks for the Red Wings. Jones, Sierra and Wooten also had two RBI apiece for Rochester.
The two teams will return to Frontier Field to wrap up their four-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Landon Jacobsen is scheduled to start for Indianapolis, while Rochester is expected to counter with RHP Mike Smith.
The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Friday's pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
