TODAY'S GAME: The fourth of a four game series and the eighth of eight meetings, four at Dunn Tire Park. The Braves and Bisons split four meetings in Richmond. Richmond is 3-4 vs. the Bisons, 1-2 in Buffalo. The Braves were 4-4 vs. Buffalo last season, 2-2 at Dunn Tire Park. This is the 12th of 48 games vs. Northern Division opponents. Richmond is 3-8 vs. the North, 1-6 on the road. The Braves were 16-32 vs. the North in '05, 8-17 on the road. Game eight of an eight game road trip for the Braves. Braves are 1-6. The Braves are 35-49 all-time vs. the Bisons. The Braves are tied for third in the South with Norfolk, six games behind first place Durham. The Bisons are in a tie for second in the North with Scranton/WB, a game and a half behind Rochester.
YESTERDAY'S GAME: The Buffalo Bisons beat the Braves 4-2 at Dunn Tire Park Thursday. The Bisons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second and turned away several Braves rallies to hang on for the win. The Bisons Einar Diaz singled two runs home in the second to put Buffalo ahead to stay. Scott Thorman knocked in a run with a single in the third to make it 2-1. The Bisons opened up a 4-1 lead in the home half on a two-run double by Jason Dubois. Michael Ryan homered in the sixth to cut the Bisons lead to 4-1. The Braves had runners in scoring position in the seventh, eighth, and ninth but failed to score again. Fernando Cabrera picked up the win. Ben Howard notched a save. Kevin Barry took the loss. Lou Merloni and Jason Cooper each had two hits for the Bisons. Ryan had three hits for the Braves.
PICKIN' IT: The Braves have played five straight errorless games. Richmond is third in the IL in fielding percentage. Only Indianapolis and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre have committed fewer errors.
NEXT STOP ATLANTA: Four R-Braves have been called up to Atlanta since the club reported to Richmon. RHP Ken Ray is 0-0 5.40 in six games. He has five strikeouts in five innings. SS Tony Pena is 0-5 in four games. RHP Peter Moylan is 0-0 0.00 in one game. He has one strikeout in one inning. Moylan and Pena made their major league debuts following their call-ups. RHP Joey Devine was returned to Richmond following his call-up and is currently assigned to the Danville roster.
A LONG, HARD TRIP: The Braves finish an eight game road trip tonight. The Braves have a road team ERA of 7.15 and are hitting just .228 on the trip with two home runs in seven games. Richmond has been out-scored 52-19 away from home. The Braves had the same number of wins, 28, on the road as at home last season. The Braves are last in the International League in ERA and hits allowed (just over 11 per game). The bullpen has allowed 50 of the 87 earned runs surrendered by the Braves. Richmond's four total home runs is last in the IL. The Braves have lost eight of their last nine games. Richmond is home for 10 of their next 11 starting tomorrow.
STREAKING: David Kelton's club season high eight game hitting streak ended yesterday. Carlos Mendez has hits in six straight (8-26 .307). Wes Timmons five game hitting streak ended yesterday, but he reached base four times (three walks and a HBP). He is six for his last 14. Carlos Duran has four hits in his last nine at bats and a three game hitting streak. Chad Paronto has worked five straight scoreless outings over nine innings. Phil Stockman has worked five straight scoreless outings over 10 innings between Mississippi and Richmond. The Braves bullpen worked four scoreless innings in yesterday's game.
