All Hail The King

March 22, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

Opening Day for the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays is right around the corner, as the Rays match up with the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday, April 8th at 2:05pm. After the game, fans will be treated to one of the most unique sporting acts in American history. The King and His Court will be playing an exhibition softball game against a local media all-star team that includes television, radio and print media outlet personalities.

The King and His Court are led by Eddie "The King" Feigner. The four man softball team has been touring the globe for the past 61 years, playing in 102 countries and in front of over 20 million fans worldwide. This visit will be the King's final to the southwest Michigan area, as he is retiring following the 2006 season.

Eddie "The King" Feigner is the self-proclaimed greatest fast pitch softball pitcher ever. The King is famous for pitching from second base, blindfolded, behind his back, between his legs, and from center field. Feigner has racked up a total of 930 no-hitters and 238 perfect games. His fastball has been clocked at over 100 miles per hour and over the span of his career he has struck out 141,517 batters. One of Feigner's most notable performances was in 1967 at Dodger Stadium. The King struck out, in succession, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Brooks Robinson, Maury Wills, Harmon Killebrew and Roberto Clemente, all in their prime.

The Rays' Opening Day game is also the initial game on The King's Farewell Tour. The first 1,000 fans through the gates on April 8th will also receive a Magnet Schedule provided by Centennial Wireless. There are still tickets available for you to witness an American legend for the last time. Stop by the Devil Rays Ticket Office, call (269) 660-2287 or visit www.southwestmichigandevilrays.com for ticket information.
