Vipers open camp with 34 players

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Tennessee Valley Vipers opened the 2006 training camp yesterday with 34 players. That roster includes former University of Alabama defensive lineman, Ahmad Childress, who was assigned to team on Wednesday.

Childress (6-6, 320) spent time with the Detroit Lions in 2004 and the New York Giants in 2004 and 2005. He played in 24 games in two seasons at Alabama after transferring from Garden City Community College. He recorded 48 tackles, one sack, six tackles-for-loss, 14 quarterback hurries, one interception and one pass break up while at Alabama.

The Vipers were also assigned Michael Hobbs (6-6, 295). He played college football at Tusculum where he was named first team All-SAC as a senior and second team All-SAC as a junior.

Tennessee Valley will continue with two-a-day practices through Monday before cutting back to one-a-day on Tuesday. They open the season at home on April 1 against the defending af2 champions, Memphis Xplorers.
