CARSON, CA (Wednesday, March 01, 2006) - The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated Houston 1836, 2-1, in a preseason match on Wednesday at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University - Dominguez Hills. Los Angeles midfielder Peter Vagenas opened the goal scoring while Houston defender Eddie Robinson notched the equalizer right before the half, but it was forward Mike Enfield's late goal that sealed the victory for the Galaxy.

Both Los Angeles and Houston played a majority of their available starters in the first half, which was tightly contested by the clubs. Houston produced the first few dangerous chances as defender Craig Waibel saw his header waived off for offside and Brad Davis had his attempt tipped just wide of the post by Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

However, the Galaxy would strike first in the 34th minute, after Houston midfielder Mike Chabala was whistled for taking down Galaxy defender Nathan Sturgis in the box. Vagenas, the team captain, stepped up and converted the penalty kick, tucking his shot just inside the right post and past Houston Goalkeeper Pat Onstad.

In the 43rd minute, Houston would respond following a cross from the left wing and dangerous header by forward Brian Ching that hit off the right post. 1836's Robinson quickly reacted to the loose ball finishing a strong shot past the Galaxy's Hartman to tie the match at 1-1.

In the second half, both clubs made whole sale changes to their lineups bringing a number of young players off the bench. In the 79th minute, forward Marc Burch beat his defender with a spinning move along the right side before striking a perfect cross in the box. L.A.'s Enfield found himself alone in the box and powered a header past Houston goalkeeper Zach Wells for the 2-1 victory.
