MetroStars Tab Four in MLS Supplemental Draft

SECAUCUS, NJ (Thursday, January 26, 2006) - The MetroStars made four selections in today's MLS Supplemental Draft. With their first pick (5th overall) the MetroStars chose midfielder Joe Vide from the University of Virginia and with their second pick (17th overall) selected Peter Dzubay, a goalkeeper out of the University of Michigan. With their third selection (29th overall) the club took Old Dominion forward Brian Cvilikas and with their fourth and final pick (31st overall), the MetroStars chose midfielder Brian Devlin from Penn State.
"We feel we have added four quality players to our roster, " said MetroStars President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "Hopefully these players will have an immediate impact for us in 2006 and will provide us solid depth at their respective positions."
"Joe Vide is an athletic midfielder and looked hungry when we scouted him, " said MetroStars Head Coach Mo Johnston. "We needed to add a goalkeeper to our roster for depth and (Peter) Dzubay can provide that to us. You take chances on certain guys and we believe we've found good value in these four players."
Vide, a 21-year-old midfielder from the University of Virginia scored four goals and had nine assists in his four-year collegiate career. He played the 2004 and 2005 seasons under current MetroStars assistant coach Richie Williams at UVA, while Williams served as the Cavaliers' assistant coach. Vide attended high school at the Bavarian International School in Munich, Germany and played for the A-Youth Team of Bundesliga club Munich 1860 from 1999-2002.
Dzubay started 64 games as a Wolverine and posted a career record of 36-23-5. He recorded 19 shutouts with 292 saves, allowing only 80 goals in his four years in Ann Arbor. He currently holds a number of career records at Michigan including wins (36), shutouts (19), goals against average (1.18) and saves (292).
The 6'3'' Cvilikas garnered College Soccer News 2nd Team All-American honors and the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year award in 2005 after posting 15 goals for Old Dominion. In his career at ODU, Cvilikas netted 32 goals and six assists.
Devlin joins the Metros from Penn State, after recently being named to the NSCAA Mid Atlantic Third Team in 2005. While serving as captain of the Nittany Lions in 2005, Devlin tallied two goals and six assists during the '05 campaign and helped lead his club to a Big Ten Conference Championship.
