West Texas Roughnecks News Release

Odessa, TX: After considering multiple offers and spending a lot of time in prayer, Wide Receiver Joel Babb has once again decided to wear a Roughnecks uniform. An original member of the inaugural team, Babb was hurt at the midpoint of the 2004 season after catching 29 passes for 433 yards and 11 touchdowns. He even earned a spot in the 2004 IFL All-Star game but was unable to play due to his ankle injury. As a returner, Joel was a crucial part of the undefeated 2005 season leading all Roughneck receivers in nearly every category. Prior to his career as a professional, the 6' 1", 195 lb. Babb was a standout in his home state at the University of Alabama. "When I committed to come to Odessa, Joel was on the top of my list of last seasons players that I wanted to keep here," remarked head coach Mike Esposito, "Today is a great day for the Roughnecks as we look to Joel to assist us with his God given talents in 2006."

Additionally, two other players were signed and will be returning to the Roughnecks training camp in April. Both were discovered at the team's open tryout in November including FB/LB Zach Shortes at 6' 1" and 220 lbs along with WR Kyle Edwards at an impressive 6' 4" and 184 lbs. Edwards is a Midland native.
