Monarchs Send Up Petiot, Sign On Barr

MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have recalled defenseman Richard Petiot from Manchester and have placed defenseman Mike Weaver on the injured reserve list (retroactive to December 30) due to a hip flexor injury, Kings President of Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today. In addition, the Monarchs have signed defenseman Chris Barr to a professional tryout agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.

Petiot, 23, was recalled by the Kings on November 1 and did not appear in a game for the club this season. In 29 games with the Monarchs this season, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound native of Daysland, Alberta, has eight points (3-5=8) and 26 penalty minutes while posting a plus-minus rating of plus-12, which ranks second amongst all Monarchs blueliners this season. Selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (116th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Petiot wears No. 2.

Weaver, 27, suffered the injury during the Kings-Phoenix Coyotes game on December 29 at Glendale Arena. In 31 games with the Kings this season, his first with the club, the 5-foot-9, 182-pounder from Bramalea, Ontario, has five points (all assists) and eight penalty minutes. In 88 career NHL games with the Kings and Atlanta Thrashers, he has 11 points (all assists) and 38 penalty minutes.

Barr, 23, has appeared in 28 games with the ECHL's Reading Royals this season collecting six points (1-5=6) and 40 penalty minutes. The last two seasons, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound native of Nipawin, Saskatchewan, played for the University of Saskatchewan (2003-05). In 52 games with the Huskies, Barr collected 13 points (1-12=13) and 128 penalty minutes. Barr also participated in the Monarchs 2005-06 training camp.

The Monarchs travel to the Dunkin' Donuts Center to face the Providence Bruins on Friday, January 6 at 7:05 p.m.
