San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE (Monday, December 5, 2005) - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they have acquired a fourth round draft pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft from the MetroStars in exchange for goalkeeper Jon Conway.
"Jon will be missed here in San Jose," said Earthquakes head coach Dominic Kinnear. "He has been a great part of our team for the past six seasons. This trade gives Jon a chance to go closer to home and gives us an extra draft pick in the upcoming SuperDraft."
Conway, 28, began his Earthquakes career in 2000 after being selected in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft. In his Quakes career, the Aston, PA native appeared in 18 games over six seasons and posted a 1.51 goals against average. His best season came in 2004, when he started five games, finishing with a 2-2-1 record, two shutouts and a career-low 0.60 goals against average.
One of the longest-tenured Earthquakes players, Conway leaves the team having played six consecutive seasons with San Jose. Midfielder Ian Russell, who also joined the Quakes in 2000, is now the longest continuously serving member of the team.
