Destroyers land former Westerville North/Bowling Green QB Josh Harris

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers have signed former Westerville North High School and Bowling Green State University standout quarterback Josh Harris, team president David Paitson announced today. Harris is among five other signings that now brings the Destroyers training camp roster to the league maximum 37 players. Offensive/defensive lineman Troy Pelshak was waived to make room for the additions.

Harris (6-3, 230, Bowling Green) enters his first season in the Arena Football League, but has a strong quarterbacking resume. Harris spent this past NFL training camp with the Cleveland Browns. He was a sixth round pick, 187th overall, by the Baltimore Ravens in 2004 and also has played with Calgary of the CFL.

Prior to the pro ranks, Harris had one of the best careers in Bowling Green history. Harris is Bowling Green's all-time career leader in rushing touchdowns (43), total touchdowns (47) and points scored (284). His senior season (2003), Harris was named honorable mention All-American and was the MVP of the Motor City Bowl. He led the Falcons to wins in his career over Purdue, Northwestern (twice), Kansas and Missouri.

Harris also set single season records for passing yards (3,813) and passing touchdowns (27) in 2003. For his career, Harris completed 627-of-1,028 passes (61.0 percent) for 7,503 yards and 55 touchdowns. He rushed for 2,473 yards and 43 touchdowns on 596 carries. He added five pass receptions for 65 yards, three of which went for touchdowns.

The Destroyers also signed wide receiver/defensive back Hugh Smith (5-10, 180, South Florida), wide receiver/linebacker Mike Nizzi (6-4, 210, Nebraska-Omaha) and offensive/defensive linemen Elliott Harris (6-4, 270, Arkansas), Ken Kocher (6-3, 315, UCLA) and Brad Greetis (6-3, 280, Cal-Lutheran).

Entering its fourth season in 2006, NBC will continue to broadcast the non-stop excitement of Arena Football each Sunday throughout the season. Check your local listings for the game in your area beginning on Sunday, Jan. 29 on the AFL on NBC.
