Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces took a huge step toward establishing their final roster over the weekend, placing forwards Colin Shields and Ryan Campbell as well as defenseman Kelly Paddon on waivers while trading forward John Ronan to Florida in exchange for cash considerations.

Defensemen Patrick Wellar and Zack Fitzgerald, forwards Cam Keith and Justin Maiser, and goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu have been assigned to the Aces through Alaska's affiliations in Peoria (AHL) and St. Louis (NHL). Fitzgerald, a third-round pick of the Blues in 2003, Beckford-Tseu, a fifth-rounder that same year who shut out Dayton Thursday in his debut before the Anchorage faithful, and Wellar, originally a third-round pick of Washington in 2002, are all under contract to St. Louis, while Keith, Maiser, and goaltender Matt Underhill will be competing under two-way AHL contracts.

Chris Minard, who won the ECHL goal-scoring title with 49 last year for the Aces, has been re-assigned to Alaska by the Albany River Rats of the AHL. The club also came to terms with Barrett Heisten, the younger brother of Chris and a former first-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 1999. Barrett Heisten, like his brother, attended the University of Maine before turning pro and played 10 games in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers during the 2001-02 season. He has spent each of the last four seasons in the AHL, scoring seven goals and 12 assists in 64 games for Bridgeport in 2004-05.

Heisten, Keith McCambridge, Ryan Gaucher, and Kimbi Daniels currently fill Alaska's four veteran slots, players who have appeared in more than 260 pro games. Forward Joe Talbot continues to rehabilitate following off-season ankle surgery and likely will be out at least until January, while the status of Daniels remains uncertain following a recent MRI.

Alaska begins its 2005-06 regular season with six consecutive home games, starting Friday at 7:15 p.m. against the San Diego Gulls. KFQD 750 AM will broadcast all Alaska Aces games, with the live feed also available at www.alaskaaces.com. For season ticket information, please call 258-ACES.
