Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons defeated the Stockton Thunder by the score of 5-4 at Gateway Ice Center to finish their pre-season slate with a perfect 3-0 record leading up to the beginning of the 2005-06 regular season this coming Friday, Oct. 21, against the Victoria Salmon Kings at Save Mart Center.
Fresno bolted to a 3-0 lead behind first-period goals from Pete Fregoe and P.O. Beaulieu and a marker from Korey Diehl mid-way through the second period.
The teams then traded two goals apiece with Paul McBrien and Dean Stork lighting the lamp for the visitors and Fraser Claire and Brett Hammond finding the back of the net for the Falcons to keep Fresno's three-goal lead intact at 5-2 3:55 into the third period.
The Thunder made a game of it, though, when they tallied twice mid-way through the final stanza. Joel Irwin scored at 10:14 and Aaron Foster did the same less than a minute later at 11:09 to pull Stockton within a goal with nearly nine minutes remaining in regulation.
Ultimately, the Falcons' lead would prove insurmountable as the club held on for the 5-4 victory. Hammond picked up his second game-winner in as many pre-season games against the Thunder, and Dustin VanBallegooie contributed three assists in the winning effort.
The Falcons open the 2005-06 regular season on Oct. 21 and 22 at Save Mart Center against the Salmon Kings and Thunder, respectively. Both games begin at 7 p.m. Single-game tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office. Prices range from $8 - $23.
