DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars kicked-off their 2005-06 American Hockey League Inaugural Season Thursday night at Wells Fargo Arena in front of 8,096 fans. Despite scoring the last two goals of the game, the Stars fell 5-4 to the Peoria Rivermen.
Rookie Zack Stortini notched the franchise's first official goal at 18:05 of the first period, assisted by Captain Dan Jancevski and right wing Kyle Brodziak. In other firsts for the team, center Toby Petersen record the team's first shot and rookie right winger B.J. Crombeen registered the Stars first-ever penalty (roughing, 47 seconds into the first period). Vojtech Polak (VOI-ta POH-lak) scored his first professional at 12:37 of the second period.
Goaltender Mike Smith faced 32 shots, including 14 in the first period.
REGULAR SEASON OPENING WEEKEND: The Iowa Stars continue their Opening Weekend festivities on Saturday, October 8th at Wells Fargo Arena against the Omaha Knights. Saturday's game will have a 7:05 PM start time. Tickets to all games can be obtained by calling 515-23-STARS.
