Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters lost 9-3 to the Evansville Otters Friday night, but the positive atmosphere in the ballpark could not be dampened as 1005 fans crowed McBride Stadium for the final Rooster home game in the franchise's illustrious history. The game was close until the Otters busted out with six runs in the seventh inning. Matt Schweitzer made the start for Richmond and took the loss, but he had plenty to celebrate as his No. 23 was retired in a pre-game ceremony. Former manager, John Cate, also had his No. 7 retired before the game.

Evansville got one in the first when Frank Scott scored on an error by the catcher, but Richmond matched it in the third when Joe Rhomberg singled to right to score Mike Reese. It was tied at 1-1 until the top of the seventh when the Otters put six runs on the board. Frank Scott and Denver Stuckey had RBI singles, Travis Munoz had a two RBI single and Mike Spry added a two-run triple to put some distance between the Otters and the Roosters at 7-1.

Richmond scored two in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI double by Kevin White to left-center and a RBI single by Kiley Vaughn, but Evansville added two more as well in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach with a 9-3 score. Chris Pillsbury (8-7) pitched a complete game for the Otters to earn his eighth win. Matt Schweitzer (6-10) threw 6 2/3 innings and gave up six runs in the loss.

The Roosters will begin their final series as a Frontier League team on Saturday at Florence against the Freedom. The game will begin at 6:05 p.m. (Indiana time) as Dan Caldwell (1-5, 4.86 ERA) gets the start for Richmond.
