Richmond, Indiana - Richmond continued its losing streak Friday night with a 9-2 defeat at the hands of the Washington Wild Things. The Roosters have now lost six straight games and are 12 games below .500. The Wild Things scored two or less runs in five different innings during the game while the Roosters were able to only put two on the board in the fifth.
The Wild Things got on the board in the first inning for the second straight night with two runs. One came on a passed ball, strike out of Randy McGarvey. The other scored on a RBI single by Ryan McGraw. Washington scored another run fourth on a fielder's choice and two in the fifth, both coming on a double by McGraw down the left field line to give the Wild Things a 5-0 lead.
The Roosters got two runs in the fifth. Joe Rhomberg hit a solo homer to left to leadoff the inning and Nate Gravley added a sacrifice fly to cut it to 5-2, but Washington scored two runs in the eighth and another pair in the ninth. Robert Morgan hit a two-run homer in the eighth and Randy McGarvey hit a two-run shot in the ninth to extend the lead to 9-2, which would be the final. J.D. Cockroft (5-4) earned the win after pitching five innings and giving up two runs. B.J. Borsa (1) threw four scoreless innings to get the save. Patrick Kohorst took the loss after he went 6 1/3 innings and gave up five runs, only two of which were earned.
The Roosters and Wild Thing will finish the series on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Tony Casoli (7-5, 4.05 ERA) will start the game for Richmond against Ryan Douglass (11-3, 3.24 ERA) of Washington. The Roosters have seven home games remaining in their tenure at Richmond before moving to Traverse City, Michigan for the 2006 season.
