Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: August 23, 2005 - arenafootball2 announced the Cutters Gloves Ironman of the Year honor, as voted on by af2 head coaches and beat writers, and this season's honor was awarded to Rio Grande Valley Dorados wide receiver/defensive back Marquis Floyd.

For followers of the Rio Grande Valley Dorados, Floyd's recognition comes as no surprise. The Monroe, Georgia native led the Dorados in the regular season with 33 touchdowns, 1,452 receiving yards (ninth in the af2) and 9 interceptions (tied for fourth in the af2). He also ranked third in the af2 in interception return yards (145) and ninth in receiving yards per game with 90.8. Floyd, who was named to the All-af2 First Team last week, was the Week 12 af2 ADT Defensive Player of the Week and received game awards in six Dorados regular season games this season, claiming the Offensive Player of the Game award in Week 16 (vs. Bakersfield), ADT Defensive Player of the Game twice (Game 3 at Bakersfield and Game 5 vs. San Diego) and US Army Ironman of the Game in four contests (Game 1 vs. Louisville, Game 8 at South Georgia, Game 11 vs. Central Valley, Game 15 vs. Oklahoma City). In the postseason, Floyd was honored as the US Army Ironman of the Week during the Semifinals after catching 9 passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns, and nabbing an interception and returning a failed onside kick attempt for a touchdown against Tulsa.

Floyd stands as the first Dorado to achieve one of the marquee end-of-the-year individual player awards granted by arenafootball2 as a member of the Dorados. Xavier Patterson was the first ever recipient of the Ironman award, winning the honor in 2000 as a member of the Quad City Steamwheelers. Media members seeking an interview with Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy or Floyd are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-227-4940.

The Dorados season did come to an end last week in Memphis, but the af2 plays out its season this weekend with the ArenaCup in Bossier City, Louisiana, as the Memphis Xplorers will face the Louisville Fire. The game will be broadcasted live on Fox Sports Net at 1PM. Additional information on the Dorados can be found by visiting the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
