JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers welcome the Chicago Bandits Women's Professional Softball Team to Silver Cross Field every Wednesday, Women's Wednesdays, during the 2005 season. You have seen her on TV, on the cover of Sports Illustrated, now you can see her in person at Silver Cross Field. U.S. Olympic gold medalist and Bandits pitcher Jennie Finch will join several of her Bandit teammates at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday, August 17. The JackHammers take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm with the Bandits signing autographs before the game.
Finch earned a gold medal as a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Softball Team in Athens. She also is one of the most decorated players in NCAA Softball history. A two-time recipient of the Honda Award, presented to the nation's best softball player, Finch holds the NCAA record for consecutive wins, with 60. A two-time Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, she was a three-time first-team All-American. In addition to being one of college-softball's most dominating pitchers, Finch also ranks seventh in Arizona history with 50 homeruns. With the Bandits this season, Finch is 11-0 with 0.72 ERA. She also has 18 RBIs, two doubles, 2 triples and five homeruns.
In addition to the Bandits appearance, Silver Cross Hospital and the LaVerne & Dorothy Brown Cardiovascular Institute will enhance the Women's Wednesday experience. With a chance for fans to play catch on the field. Fans can pay $5 each to go onto the field and play catch for a half hour before the game (6:05 pm - 6:35 pm). Also, those fans will receive a blue "Catch for a Cause" bracelet. As part of the Women's Wednesdays the JackHammers wear special jerseys. These jerseys will be auctioned to the fans on the last Wednesday home game of the season (August 31). Proceeds from the "Catch for the Cause" and jersey auction will benefit Silver Cross Hospital's LaVerne & Dorothy Brown Cardiovascular Institute. It is also Parrothead Night at the ballpark; the first 1,000 fans will receive a lei compliments of Air 1 Wireless and night will be filled with cool Jimmy Buffett tunes.
Women or anyone wearing a dress or skirt when they attend a JackHammers Wednesday game can receive a $2 discount on a Box Seat (regularly priced at $9 per ticket). This discount is available only at the Silver Cross Field ticket office on the day of the game.
