New Jersey Cardinals News Release

Kyle Kendrick pitched a complete game and the Batavia Muckdogs (Philadelphia Phillies) defeated the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) 7-2 Tuesday night at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey. The loss stopped a 4 game win streak for the Cardinals (25-23), while Batavia (18-28) won for the first time in 6 games. Kendrick picked up his 4th victory of the season and Andy MacFarlane drove in two runs to help Batavia avoid the sweep. Kyle Sadlowski (0-3) took the loss.

After 3 scoreless innings, Batavia scored 4 times in the 4th to take the lead. MacFarlane had an RBI groundout to second with one out, before the Muckdogs lined three straight two out RBI singles, the last coming off the bat of Julian Williams.

The Cardinals answered back in their half of the 4th with two runs to cut the lead in half. Daniel Nelson led off with a bunt single, and Tyler Greene followed with a single to right to put runners on first and second. One out later, catcher Brandon Yarbrough singled through the hole at shortstop, scoring Nelson with New Jerseys first run. After a double steal, Kendrick bounced a pitch in the dirt that got by Marson and plated Greene. But Kendrick rebounded to get the next two outs and end the Cardinals threat.

Batavia extended the lead back to 4 in the fifth. Marson rolled into a double play with the bases loaded to score a run, and MacFarlanes RBI single made it 6-2. John Hardy added a sacrifice fly in the 7th for the seventh Muckdogs run.

Kendrick, who struck out 6, scattered 7 hits for his first complete game of the season and the first pitched at Skylands in 2005. He walked 2 batters.

The Cardinals return to action Wednesday, August 10, with the first game of a three game series with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians). Game time is scheduled for 7:15. Blake Hawksworth (0-2, 6.57) is set to start for the Cardinals.
