Frederick Keys News Release

Frederick, MD - The Frederick Keys (18-15) could not quiet the Wilmington Blue Rocks (14-22) bats on Keys' mascot Keyote's 13th birthday celebration, as the Blue Rocks avenged their 14-3 loss from Monday night with a 13-2 win over the Keys.

The Blue Rocks offense pounded out 18 hits, getting their lead-off hitter to reach base in six of nine innings on their way to 13 runs.

The Blue Rocks took an early 3-0 lead after Jeff Ontiveros led-off the top of the second with a double, followed by Scott White's triple to left field to score Ontiveros. Zach Borowiak singled to score White, before John Van Der Bosch drove in Borowiak with a single of his own.

Frederick answered in the bottom of the second inning, as Blue Rocks starter Tommy Hottovy hit Mario Delgado and Jarod Rine with pitches. Brian Bock followed Rine with a single to score Delgado. Hottovy hit Bryan Bass with a pitch to load the bases and Travis Brown drove in Rine to close Wilmington's lead to a run, grounding out to Chad Spann.

It was all Blue Rocks from then on, as Wilmington's offense plated four runs in the top of the third inning, highlighted by Van Der Bosch's two-run single. Dusty Brown would hit a lead-off homer in the top of the fourth inning off Richard Salazar to extend Wilmington's lead to 8-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, Wilmington added three more runs to their lead, as Ian Bladergroen hit a two-run double down the right field line to put the Blue Rocks in front 10-2.

Trevor Caughey replaced Salazar in the top of the sixth inning, but it did nothing to halt Wilmington's offense, as Ontiveros led off the inning with his second double of the game. White hit a two-run home run down the left field line, his eighth of the season, giving Wilmington a 12-2 lead.

The Blue Rocks scored one more run in the seventh inning, as White's sacrifice fly to deep left field scored Brant Ust, to give Wilmington a 13-2 win.

Fredy Deza (3-7) took the loss for the Keys lasting 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on four hits. Richard Salazar was tagged for four runs on six hits over 2.1 innings and Trevor Caughey allowed three runs on six hits over 2.0 innings before Jeff Montani and Marino Salas each tossed a scoreless inning.

Justin Sturge (2-1) earned the victory tossing 4.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit in relief of Hottovy, who lasted 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.

The Keys will play the final game of their three game series against the Blue Rocks on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Adam Loewen will take the mound for the Keys. Wednesday night is Party In The Park presented by Z104 and Champion Billiards and Sports Café. The Orchard Boys will provide live bluegrass music for fans from the time gates open until the start of the game.
