Chinooks starters Day and Johnson sign with Mex-LNPB

Portland, Oregon. The Portland Chinooks announced today that Chinooks starters Robert Day and Byron Johnson have signed with Algodoneros de La Comarca in Torreon, Mexico of the LNPB, a new professional league in Mexico, founded through the Mexican Basketball Federation.

Day, a former Benson High School, Western Oregon University and ABA all-star and Byron Johnson, formerly a leading scorer in the IBL, are scheduled to leave for Mexico on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 and are scheduled for the upcoming season with Algodoneros.

Chinooks owner, Terry Emmert said "Though Robert and Byron will be deeply missed by our organization and their teammates, we have been anticipating their acceptance of this opportunity and are very proud of them. We are extremely excited about the opportunity that awaits them internationally and fully support their decision to play in the LNPB."

The Portland Chinooks have 9 wins and 7 losses with 6 games remaining in the IBL season, and are currently 3rd in the IBL Western Division and in close pursuit of the Tacoma Thunder and Des Moines Heat for the first place position. The Chinooks are on a 3-game winning streak, beating Waterloo, IA on the road on June 4 and beating the Chico Force twice on June 10 and 12, 2005.

The Portland Chinooks are on the road traveling to Summit High School in Bend, Oregon on Friday, June 17, 2005 to play the Central Oregon Hotshots and play the Vancouver Volcanoes at Clark Community College on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 7:30 p.m.
