Silver Cross Field gets schooled

Joliet, Ill. – Silver Cross Field, the $27-million home of the Joliet JackHammers, is also the home to 10 high school baseball games and 22 University of St. Francis baseball games. The collegiate games have begun while the high school games begin on March 29. The JackHammers are scheduled to begin their fourth season at 7:05 pm on Friday, May 20 versus the Gary (IN) SouthShore RailCats at Silver Cross Field in Joliet's City Center.

The high school match-ups are as follows:

March 29…2 pm…Joliet Township vs. Minooka

April 6…5 pm…Homewood-Flossmoor vs. Lincoln Way East

April 9…3 pm…Wilmington vs. Mt. Carmel (Chicago)

(note: Wilmington placed 3rd in the '04 state playoffs for Class A)

April 14…5 pm…Lincoln Way Central vs. Lincoln Way East

April 21…5:30 pm…Coal City vs. Reed-Custer

April 22…6:30 pm…Lockport vs. Joliet Catholic Academy

(note: Baseball America ranks Lockport as the #31 team in the country in their preseason poll; JCA placed 2nd in the '04 state playoffs for Class AA)

April 29…TBD…Joliet Township vs. Lincoln Way East

April 30…10 am…Wiers Academy / 1:30 pm…Carl Sandburg vs. H.L. Richards

In exchange for use of Silver Cross Field, each host school has committed to the JackHammers Fun-raising program. The host school commits to a minimum purchase of 300 Box Seat tickets for a JackHammers game during the 2005 regular season. A Box Seat costs $9, but the JackHammers sell them for $7 per seat to the host team. For the fun-raiser, the host team sells the tickets at the $9 value and can reap the benefit of a $600 fun-raiser. The JackHammers are already compiling a list of interested schools for 2006. For more information, call Rich Kuchar—the director of ticket sales—at 815-774-2881.

The 2005 season marks the final year for USF baseball coach Tony Delgado who announced his retirement prior to this season. He has been in coaching since 1966 and the last 10 years have been spent at USF where he has collected a 268-and-247 record (entering the 2005 season).
