BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders, have announced the signing of center Derek Edwardson to a professional tryout contract.
Edwardson joins the Sound Tigers from their ECHL affiliate, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The Morton Grove, Illinois native leads Atlantic City with a +16 and is tied for the team lead with 30 points on 13 goals and 17 assists. He also has ten penalty minutes in 26 games with the Boardwalk Bullies and has appeared in two AHL games with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Edwardson began this season by attending training camp with the Sound Tigers posting an assist in two preseason games.
The Sound Tigers will finish a four-game home-stand when they host the Portland Pirates tonight at 7:05 p.m. They will play the first of seven straight road games when they visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Friday, New YearÂ’s Eve, at 5:05 p.m. Both games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com. FridayÂ’s game will also be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM.
