Barrie Colts News Release

Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts and the Ontario Hockey League today announced that Shayne Corson has been named the honourary captain for Team OHL in the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge game to be played Thursday November 25 in Barrie (7:00 p.m.).

Corson graduated from a three-year OHL career with the Brantford Alexanders and Hamilton Steelhawks in 1986. After being selected eighth overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, Corson went on to enjoy a 19-year career with the Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars. Corson led Team Canada to a silver medal in the 1986 World Junior Championships in Hamilton. He also represented Canada in the 1998 Winter Olympics.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity to represent the OHL in this series, especially in my home town" said Corson, who led Canada with seven goals in the 1986 World Junior Championships. "It's always exciting when Canada and Russia meet on the ice. The history of this rivalry has been a part of our game for more than 30 years."

Team Russia won the first two games of the series in shootouts over Team QMJHL earlier this week in Quebec City and Montreal. The Barrie Colts will host the first OHL-based game on November 25 followed by the Mississauga IceDogs on November 29. The series will conclude in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels hosting on December 1 and the Lethbridge Hurricanes hosting the finale on December 2.

Tickets for the game in Barrie are still available and can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling (705)-739-7666, in person at the Molson Centre box office or on-line at www.chl.ca.
