Drew Bernhardy of Bonanza High School wins Gladiators’ Ironman Award

October 13, 2004 - Arena Football League (AFL) Las Vegas Gladiators

Las Vegas, NV, October 13, 2004 – The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football" and US Army, awarded Drew Bernhardy of Bonanza High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the seventh week of the 2004 high school football season.

The Gladiators and US Army, will honor Bernhardy by making a $250 donation to the Bonanza High School athletic department.

In Bonanza's third win of the season, the sophomore running back led the Bengels' to a 66-0 victory over Clark High School on Friday, October 8. Bernhardy led the Bengels' offense tallying three touchdowns, two receiving and one rushing. On the season, Bernhardy has 51 carries for 365 yards with four touchdowns and 10 receptions for 134 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Bernhardy also excels off the field well as he holds a 3.7 GPA.

This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.

Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.

The US Army provides direction for detailed planning, preparation and execution of the full range of tasks necessary to provide relevant and ready landpower to the Nation while maintaining the quality of the all-volunteer force.
